Periodically a place is so tasty that I have to pause in my savoring to write a Yelp review. Seriously, if you are anywhere near a Fat Nat's, you need to go there for breakfast. Upon walking in, we were told to sit wherever, and a waitress promptly brought us menus and asked about drinks. As we looked over the menu, we could faintly hear some punk music coming from the kitchen, with a bass line that was enthusiastically punctuated by a cook dinging the bell on the counter. When our waitress returned with coffee, we asked for recommendations, and ended up ordering both items she suggested: Fat Nat's Slider and Huevos Rancheros con Papas Favorito. She went to put in our order, and Groove is in the Heart by Dee-Lite came on. I burst into an impromptu lip sync, and glanced over to see the cook totally singing along, using his kitchen utensils as drumsticks. He even busted out with, "Sing it, baby!" right on cue. You may think that my review is based solely on the entertainment, and while that's been a pleasantly awesome part of it, the food is freakin' *amazing*. The pork in my dish is roasted for 16 hours, making it pull apart beautifully. The flavor...let's just say I'm going to be dreaming about this place after we return to Colorado. And now, back to food. :) Addendum: Our waitress was super awesome as well, both attentive and knowledgable, with the added bonus of having lived in CO for six years. Love it!

I know that there are people who live and die by Fat Nat's food, but that's not what got me. Don't get me wrong, the food was good. There just wasn't anything extraordinary about it. The real treat here is the service. Our first server had to run out before she could serve us, but on her way out, she stopped back and thanked us for coming in and apologized for needing to leave. Our second server was just as pleasant. It was nice to see such a friendly group of people so early in the morning. We got three huge breakfasts for ~$35. Delivered to the table within 20 minutes of initially taking our seat. Spectacular. I can't wait to go back.

Wow!!!! Fat Nat's = incredible Old school breakfast ... I had 2 eggs bacon hash browns which were perfect. My buddy had steak and eggs and was over the top happy. Place is not much to look at, but who cares... It's breakfast and they do it as well as anyone, probably better!

Greasy spoon. It was awful. Haven't dared to try it a second time. Breakfast place shouldn't stink, should smell yummy. Service...well maybe they were having a bad day. Unlucky us.

Fat Nats, you've done it again! Another location, and another 5 star fuck yeah get your asses in here and eat some god damn food review! Which I'm probably missing punctuation in that sentence but to hell with it. Stopped by around 9'ish on Sunday with the better half and her friend, and there's a wait. Get there a little early and get your name on the list. Make sure your WHOLE PARTY arrives, or you're not getting seated. Fat Nats rule here, you'll get skipped over. Anyway, get seated, and like I expect, service is top notch throughout. Coffee cup never goes empty, water is refilled as it gets sucked down. Even when a side of toast was "missed" (I say that, because the cook who came out to help deliver our mass of food said it got sent out with another order before ours) the cook asked what type, went back, made it quick and brought it with an apology for the wait of 35 seconds. Lets dig into the review, and my apology for no pictures. I went with the Jacob omelet. 3 eggs, carnitas, black beans, salsa verde, pepper jack and topped with homemade salsa. The carnitas inside was god damn perfect. Perfect fall apart beef that was loaded with spicy flavor. Omelet was closed up perfectly around it all, the pepperjack cheese was salty yet spicy and was gooed up all inside this tube of fantasticness. Beans weren't mushy but cooked properly to give a little extra texture, and the salsa... oh the salsa. Green inside and red outside, works so well together it's not funny, it just fucking amazing. It's a spicy omelet that will definitely clear some sinus and test the boundaries of your relationship with how awful the gas is you'll get from it. But, it's all worth it! Just don't ask your significant other if it is. Blue berry pancakes were again, flawless. Perfect huge cakes, not doughy, great texture, big whole blue berries that burst with flavor (alliteration there haha!). Ashley again went with the Mom's english muffin covered in eggs, ham and cheese with some raspberry fritter french toast... which was all flawless again. Her friend went with the apple cinnamon fritter french toast, some side eggs and toast and loved every bite of it it. One of those things that brings a tear to my eye when you can have a perfect breakfast at the same place, just in different locations.

The food is so good I want to eat this for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Service is fast and good and servings are huge! Everything is made fresh and tastes divine. I took some home on the road trip back to Nebraska and I was still eating it cold--and I kid you not it's still gooood

Excellent joint. We had breakfast here. My daughter had blueberry pancakes and I had the green chilli eggs. Food is good, the green chilli was pretty good. The joint itself it's pretty electic. Not your usual generic diner. The bunch of golf paraphernalia tells a story. The ongoing bluesy music tells another story about the owners. The wait staff is pretty good too....kept my coffee refilled all the time!

Hands-down the best eggs Benedict I've ever eaten. I've visited this restaurant last week and the customer service was superb. Our waiter was Dan was very helpful, Great personality, and also had great recommendations in regards to the menu. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you're looking for good wholesome food.

It's too bad - this place could be great. But serving mediocre Sysco sausage and patties at a breakfast and lunch restaurant just doesn't cut it. Especially in 2015. How hard is it to source a quality product or make it in house? Anyone can make a home made breakfast pork patty. From what I see most of the rest of their food is top notch and much is home made. Nat -- I hope you're listening...

Wow!!! The food here was fantastic! Had the Fat Nats Supremo! Amazingly good. Service was good, and thoughtful, the coffee was decent, the establishment clean. The prices were reasonable. The whole experience was great. Nothing negative discuss. If you are looking for a great breakfast place with awesome food in NW burbs of Minneapolis, look no further, we will be back! Make sure you venture off of the traditional menu items. Fat Nat's Green Chili Verde is AMAZING!

Was in town for the weekend and wanted to eat somewhere different for breakfast. We were in the Brooklyn Park location on March 8, 2015. Food was amazing and our waitress was awesome! She was helpful and very pleasant. Wish I would have gotten her name. Just a neat mom and pop kinda place with great food! I will be back again:)

Seriously? How cute, how good, how amazing is Fat Nat's Eggs? I am a tough breakfast gal. I don't like many sit down breakfast places, so to find a place that cooks my eggs the way I like (Over medium, it's very hard for some folks!) is really hard. The service was great. OJ was good. I loved the hash browns! The only thing I didn't love about FNE was that I couldn't sub anything. So no bacon instead of sausage or the like. Be prepared for that. DO have a pancake, they were delicious, and the eggs Benedict was perfection. Do yourself a favor, go in, be blown over by the good service, delicious smells and savor it for a while.

Greasy spoon of the burbs! My go to spot for quick, basic, breakfast food in the neighborhood. Thumbs up: -reliable, consistent -decent c.s. -you get what you pay for -it is what it is/what you get is what you see Thumbs down: -nothing fancy -long wait on weekends and holidays

My husband and I only eat breakfast out at Fat Nat's since discovering it. We both get the same thing, because it's the best; Bacon Avocado Benedict, with hash browns with fried onions. There is literally no way to top this meal. I dare you to try. That being said, EVERYTHING else on the menu that we have tried has been amazing! The Burgers are yummy, the hamburger steak is killer, the omelets are nifty - anything with the spicy avocado verde will make you happy if you can handle a little heat. The salsa is fresh and home made (BONUS!). They do get busy on the weekends (but isn't that a good thing?!) - if you can find a spot at the counter, it's first come first served, so grab a seat. The food comes out fast and hot, so turn around is usually quick. I have NOTHING bad to say about Fat Nat's, period.

My wife and I ate here on Saturday at about 8 a.m. . The restaurant was only about one third full so we were able to sit down immediately. The decor is extremely bare. Maybe they ran out of money for decorating, or maybe they just did not care, either way very plain. My wife ordered fat Nat's slider, and it was very delicious. The hollandaise sauce was obviously mass-produced, but that is a minor complaint as far as I'm concerned. I ordered the Davids omelette. It comes with corn beef hash inside of it and the cook is obviously not a fan of corn beef hash. If he was he would know to cook it well done so that it had a crispy quality to it. Instead my omelette was filled with salty mush that was just barely browned before placed inside. We ordered one pancake to share. It was a tiny bit on the light side, but otherwise it was ok. Our food came out very quickly. I'm assuming that is because the restaurant was mostly empty. I have never been inside while they were busy, so I don't know how the service would be then. Our server was very cheerful and friendly. She checked on our meal soon after we received it, and refilled our coffee several times. My only complaint about the service was that we had to wait for the check at the end a little longer than normal. This restaurant could have gotten 3 stars instead of 2, I could not make up my mind. Friendly service, decent food, terrible atmosphere. Neither great, nor awful.

Ohdeargodyesplease I'm so glad I went out of my way to find this place today. It's a strong contender for Diners Drive Ins and Dives, that's for sure! The portions are HUGE, the service is friendly, and the salsa is spicy (and flavorful!). I had the huevos with beans and carnitas and potatoes and left about a third of it on the plate. This place rocks, would definitely recommend seeking out this strip mall gem!

Amazing breakfast. Typically go for one of the omelettes but haven't had a thing I didn't like. I take everyone here for breakfast of visiting from out of town. Portions are big and the wait is never more than 15 minutes

My husband and I moved to BP from Golden Valley last year and were looking for a new breakfast place. Fat Nat's was only about 10 minutes from our place so we decided to give it a try. Great decision! We generally come here 2-3 times a month, usually every other weekend or so. It's pretty much always busy whether it's 8 AM or 10 AM, so prepare for that. Some other reviewers suggest grabbing a seat at the counter if they become open - I endorse this idea as well. You don't have to put your name on the list! We try and nab counter seats as often as possible. The food is great. I usually order the Bacon Avocado Egg's Benedict or I "make" my own omelet as I'm not a fan of any of the combinations on the menu. They've always been delicious. Hubby tends to get an omelet or Huevos Rancheros Chorizo. The service is generally pretty good, although we've had a couple hiccups. Once hubby tried to order to go over the phone so that I could pick it up on my way home from an early appointment. It was busy so the gal put him on hold - then never took him off hold! He hung up but couldn't call back because their phone was still "holding". I ended up having to go in to order the food myself and wait. They got it out ASAP for me though. Another time, just this weekend actually, hubby asked for a side of their red salsa but it never got brought to us. He was halfway through his omelet when he was finally able to remind the gal and get his salsa. So overall a great place, and we will continue coming here often as long as we live in the area. Food is delicious, prices are about the norm, service is great, just not perfect.

Pretty, pretty good East metro location, please? Kind of bright inside ***DISCLAIMER: This review is being written after having been here only once. I had heard good things about Fat Nat's from co-workers and also saw the mostly favorable reviews here. After a work outing today, decided to check this place out on the way back to the office as it was not much in the way of frolic and detour. Yes, it deserves the praise and good reviews it gets. Got there about 10:30 and about half the tables and booths were occupied. The counter was empty, so there I sat. Staff was friendly and prompt. Menu is breakfast and lunch only. Lots of comfort food items. They have 7 different Eggs Benedict varieties. Went with the Green Chili Benedict with Carnitas and hashbrowns. The hashbrowns were pretty standard, but the Bennie was outstanding! Next time I am in the west metro in the morning, I will make sure to stop back. They could tone the lighting down a little bit, though. Look at the picture of the inside of the BP location on their website. The lights are blaring!

Great breakfast joint with great service! We got the Benedict sandwich, Hatch chile w/ eggs and carnitas, red salsa w/ eggs and carnitas. They screwed up one of our orders, which I was totally okay with because it still had the chile, but the server took off our drinks anyway. That was very nice of them to do that. About the food, great spice level. I had the bottle ready but didn't need to add the Tapatio. The roasted potatoes were awesome. As another poster mentioned, hashbrowns were nothing special. Our guest ordered French toast and bacon, and said that was great as well. We'll be back to try more of the menu. I tipped over 20% because everything exceeded my expectations. Customers and staff looked happy. I like when the staff looks happy to be at their jobs. I've never, ever said this, but they even had good music on!

Stopped in at 10 in the morning didn't wait long ordered biscuit's and gravy wife had ham and eggs.My gravy tasted like too much flour ,biscuits small and soft like from a tube ,should have gone with hash browns as american fries were large and a touch cold. The ham my wife had was ok.Service was good though.I would not drive out of my way for a meal like that again

A restaurant in a strip mall that doesn't look like much from the outside but don't judge a restaurant by it's appearance. Has a good size menu and seats a large amount of people comfortably. Ordered the Emily's omelet which has sliced turkey breast(not deli meat turkey), bacon, tomatoes, cheese and a spicy avocado spread. On a scale of 1-10 I would rank it delicious. The turkey is not dry, the bacon adds.....well it's bacon so it's good and the spicy avocado spread is a very nice touch to give it a little kick. The service is very friendly and on top of coming to your table once you sit down, refilling drinks, and bringing your check even when they're busy. If you are in the Brooklyn Park, MN area for breakfast, I would suggest Fat Nat's Eggs.

Amazing! Had the huevos rancheros with carnitas and it was awesome. It was better than I've had at any Mexican restaurant. The avocado salsa is perfect. Sat at the counter and the service was fast and friendly. Wish this was in my home town.

Found Fat Nats on the web, in town for the Rush concert and was looking for a good breakfast. We found better than good, it was awesome. Staff was prompt and courteous, and the Carnitas Huevos Rancheros was delicious. NO skimping on the portions here. Coffee was very tasty too.

**TIP: If the counter seats are empty, just take a seat and the servers at the counter will serve you. Shorter wait time!** I love breakfast food. LOVE. I'll eat it any time of the day. The blueberry pancakes are to die for. And they're ginormous. I thought I could eat two..... I ate a quarter of one pancake. It was sooo good though. Warm, fluffy with lots of juicy, gooey blueberries. I also had the eggs benedict, which was also scrumptious. Lots of sauce, egg pouched to perfection, thick chunk of ham. :) Ooooh, and the hash browns are PERFECTLY crispy but not burnt. Mmmm.... If it wasn't so far away from me, I'd go here again. And again. Keep in mind they have limited hours-- they're truly a breakfast/brunch joint! They will not be opened in the evenings for my crabby, starving, drunk munchies.... this is more a reminder to myself than anyone. Haha.

This is a breakfast factory. They know how to do what they do, which is breakfast, and they do it well. I can only comment on the eggs benedict... it is the only thing I ever have when I go there. The ham is the real stuff and the poached eggs are perfectly soft for me ;-) Tell them how you like it and you will probably get it. This is family owned diner decor... trophies and other owner ego items... I came for food ;-)

Can I say OH MY YELP! Yelp Yelp... WHoops.. I mean HELP HELP! or.... Is it? This place is Amazing! The food is very tasty! I love everything about it. Service- The service was fantastic! We didn't have a problem with anything. The waitress made sure we were doing okay and stocked up on beverages. FYI if you choose to drink orange juice.. it's not bottomless... Food- Everything looks amazing and if you need some spice, add some green chili on the side. It's so finger licking delicious! I am definitely going back!!! ^_^ Parking- They have their own parking available.

Best breakfast ever! Always crowded for a reason. Service is good, prices are reasonable and the norms omelette is the best omelette I've ever had. Also if they ask you if you want your hashbrowns loaded say yes.

First of all I need to admit I have a bit of an obsession with Green Chile, and Hatch Green Chile is the only way to go. Being spoiled in Colorado for so long, I was a bit concerned I wasn't going to find a smothered breakfast when I moved to Minnesota. Well I have officially found my go to breakfast joint. I've been here twice now and the service is fantastic and did i mention they have Hatch Green Chile? My first trip I had the Huevps Rancheros with pork carnitas smothered in Green Chile! YUM. Today I opted for the Emily Omelette smothered in green chile....amazing! My husband got the Fat Nats Slider, it was a ham, egg and cheese sammy on top of hash browns all smothered in hollandaise sauce, it was highly recommended by our waitress, unfortunately he didn't love it. Maybe it was due to his lack of enthusiasm for hollandaise. Overall the staff here is amazing, they didn't even mind us getting there close to closing time and I can't get over the green chile.....obsessed might be the best way to describe it. I will definitely be back! I can't imagine any other way to start my Saturday!

I have been to this location three times. First time was good, second time both our orders were wrong and not good. They served french fries with gravy on them with there roast beef sandwich and it was really is not a good combination. I thought maybe I looked at the menu wrong, but no, it states mashed spuds. I don't know if they just ran out of mashed, but they could have at least told me they were subbing. Very disappointing. My oredered hashbrowns and they came loaded with onions. Decided to try again and once again the food was not very good. I ordered hashbrowns and got fried, they corrected in a short time, but the hashbrowns were cold and very greasy. Overall, just not very good. It just seems strange, because the first time everything was really good.

This place gets busy but the wait goes by fast! We had maybe 8 parties in front of us on the waitlist, but we got seated within 20 min. Service was great and food came out FAST (hence, the short wait time). I got the el jefe omelette which came with 3 eggs, black beans, chorizo, cheese and housemade salsa. I subbed the toast with a blueberry pancake and everything was really good. I really like their chorizo. Others at my table for the huevos rancheros with chorizo and carnitas, and I think they all enjoyed their dishes as well. I would def recommend!

  • Courtney W.

Hands down, best breakfast I have ever had. Service was great. Prices were low. The decor of the restaurant isn't anything fancy, but the food more than made up for it. I ordered the Bacon Avocado Egg's Benedict and it was DELICIOUS. It was spicy and I loved it. Can't wait to go again and introduce my friends to the best breakfast they will ever have! :)

Best breakfast ever. My husband and I go here almost every other week on the weekends and it is packed. But we have never waited longer than 15-20 minutes for a table. The owners are a very nice couple, Lisa and Jeff, who serve up an amazing breakfast and lunch. If you haven't already done so, order a side of salsa verde.. It is DEEEEEELICIOUS with breakfast!

  • Danielle L.

Stellar customer service. Love the avocado egg benedict, like everyone else. Also love their pan cakes. Ask for the verse sauce on the side so you can control it to your tasting. Again, the service is really great. I've been here about three times now, and I've had consistent service where the servers aren't pushy but will help you pick out something to eat. They make sure your coffee cup/water is full and that you are tended to. They'll take care of you. Oh and fyi American fries = potato wedges, not French fries lol.

Have been here twice. It is okay but I don't think it lives up to all the hype. The prices are decent, it's always packed and the food comes hot. Both times we have been, the service has been sub-par.

I want to hunt down Fat Nat and give him a hug. I love this place. I am not a huge breakfast person. This place makes me love breakfast so much. I've been here 3 times and never had anything I didn't love. Huevos rancheros? Mouth watering. Bacon avocado benedict? Can you deliver this? And the omlet with the chorizo and black beans? The only thing that could make it more perfect is if it were a burrito. Their salsas make me sooooooooooo happy. They are incredible and they are SPICY. Not just MN spicy but legitimately spicy. Fat Nat doesn't mess around when it comes to salsa. Both his red and green salsas should be bottled and sold. Oh and the hashbrowns could give uptown diner a run for their money. The portions could feed Andre the Giant too while the prices remain reasonable! Don't let the location scare you. It's in a strip mall next to 610 and 252 in Brooklyn Park. But this place is legit. Wonderful food. Usually wonderful service. Just know that if you get the older lady she's not very friendly. Not mean just don't expect service with a smile. You will only get service. The dude with the tats is super cute and incredibly friendly though.

If you're looking for a nice local restaurant to go to, this is it. They have great breakfast food that will make you want to come back to try the rest of their menu. The Fatnat's Slider is by far my most favorite breakfast dish anywhere. The poached egg with hollandaise sauce is to die for.

  • Tasha C.

Friggin' Key's on University wouldn't answer their phone this morning, so Fat Nat's won the opportunity to provide us an exceptional take-out brunch experience. I realize now what an oxymoron that is. Breakfast food, by its very nature, does not travel well. This is not Fat Nat's fault - this is Jesus'. That said, I maintain all statements made in my previous review of Fat Nat's. This place rocks and should be patronized at least once by anyone within a 15 mile radius. That said, I would not recommend take-out. I can't imagine that the disappointment is specific to Fat Nat's; however, I have had breakfast delivered from Key's downtown back in my metro-residency days and the Fat Nat's takeout is the red-headed stepchild of the Key's downtown delivery. I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'. This experience will not deter me from ol' Nat's in the slightest. I'll just be eating in from here on out.

Nat is not fat. I saw a picture of him. He's actually quite skinny. Why am I not surprised. Such an unassuming little diner, sitting in a ordinary strip mall in Brooklyn Park. On a Sunday morning at 11, the place was packed. But as a twosome, we got seated at the bar within 5 or 10 minutes. As many have written, the servers become like old friends within the course of a meal. It's just the kind of place you feel comfortable in a hurry. The Huevos Rancheros Chorizo was rock solid. I got mine with the green chili sauce...to die for!! My pal went for the classic eggs benedict, and he was not disappointed. If they could spruce up the interior a bit, this place could leap to 5 stars. From the pictures here on Yelp, the New Hope location appears to have better ambience... Great food, warm smiles, and skinny/fat Nat.

The Mr. and I found Fat Nat's by accident while driving up North one Sunday. What a pleasure! The place was packed but we waited no more than 10 minutes for a table. My omelet was perfect and so was his eggs benedict. The item I keep remembering and craving is the pancake! Super thick and fluffy and cinnamony. A real bonus was our server. I wish I remembered his name... Super kind and super quick and really funny. I wish we had such a perfect, cheap, greasy spoon nearer to us in the Twin Cities.

  • Dang N.

This place has got the best of both worlds. It's really clean, it's got a bar, the ingredients are fresh, the balance of food is excellent and yet with all this, it's got an old school feel. The waitresses are really friendly, like the kind of friendly you see in movies where the hero stops at a road-side restaurant to get breakfast. Seriously, they really are this nice. I sat at the bar right next to the entrance to the kitchen so I got to see all the food that was ordered and brought out. It all looked so good. I talk to my waitress and mention that I really should get the oatmeal for my health and she looks at me and says, "Don't order the oatmeal." She says this as if I'll make the biggest mistake in my life because by ordering the oatmeal, I'll miss out on how good thye make their eggs. And I believe her so I order the eggs benedict with green sauce. Mainly because I saw a plate of hash brown being carried out and so wanted to try the hash browns. The eggs benedict were perfectly cooked. I mean perfect. I was impressed. With the hash browns and the green sauce (not too bad on the spice) it was really fantastic. So how fantastic was this place? Like, for the price, I'd eat breakfast here every week and take a heart attack for this food.

Best breakfast in a great diner atmosphere with the friendliest server! Love this place! We have been three times and had the best time and best food each time! Consistent... The menu here has the best traditional Benedict and many variations. (I like the veggie.) The blueberry pancakes are perfect! Thin (not cakey) and so sweet they don't even need syrup! Can't wait to go again to try their french toast next time. (If I can stop myself from getting the veggie omelet again, which is soooo good!)

Amazing food! Portion sizes are very generous. If you're concerned about your waistline, as one waitress kindly put it... 'They don't call us Fat Nat's' for no reason! Delicious!

Lives up to the hype! You know a restaurant is great when a majority of the time talking about who you want to bring along the next time you go. After much discussion, I have chosen to bring the biggest critic I know. My mother. Why? She will love it. Things to note: The "spicy" food isn't "Minnesota Spicy" but sits somewhere in the "perfectly spicy" zone. The salsa is... wow. The staff is great and the people watching is even better! I am a very big fan of breakfast and I have to say this place is now in my top 3 in the metro area. It is not pretentious as the cooks rocking to Van Halen in the back made perfectly clear. Just great breakfast food with CostCo portions. My only two gripes? It isn't open 24hrs a day and there isn't a location directly across the street from my house. Let's work on that ok, Nat?

Thank you fellow Yelpers for sending me here, it was everything you said it would be, Great home style cooking, efficiently served, and HUGE portions, I ordered Emily's omelet, they warned me it would be spicy, but it was not extreme, just pleasantly sinus clearing. I had to stop because I was stuffed, not because my eyes were watering, though it was so good I wanted to keep eating it. The American fries were excellent ,too, very similar to what I make at home. Update: took my very large teenage boy this week, he could not finish his meal either :-) this also gave me a chance to try the pancakes which are somehow rich and fluffy at the same time. Also got to experience the bathrooms this time, pleasant and clean, but it's the No Farting sign in the hallway that adds some character!

I adore Fat Nat's. I don't give out five stars lightly, and breakfast food is an even tougher sell for this lady right here. I can love them, but mine is a tough love, both to get and to keep. Any time of the day (before 2 pm) I can walk in, sit down at the counter, give my order almost instantly to one of the nicest people I've ever met (regardless of who happens to be working), and get my food before I've had time to pretend to read the Star Tribune. How do I love thee, Fat Nats? Let me count the ways: Excellent food, great staff who knows just how much interaction I'm looking for (hardly any at first, but eventually I'll open up if they ask me about my crossword puzzle progress or how the double order of bacon is treating me), wake-me-up lighting that tells my hangover to get lost, and a brand of hometown coziness that doesn't suffocate, but will give you all that you ask for.

This place has great food.. The wait is ridiculous but the food is good. Went in last week and had to wait about 30 min and it was worth the wait.. The eggs were perfect and so was the bacon.. The biscuits and gravy was amazing. the service was great too. i would highly recommend.

I almost feel bad only giving them three stars! I don't know what I missed that everyone else sees, but it was more of a three-star place for me. I got the huevos rancheros chorizos. It was very good, and I would certainly go back, but it didn't get me addicted to the place. Maybe the next time I go back it'll get a star rating bump! The service was friendly and I liked the atmosphere - it was very casual. The service kind of reminded me of a "everyone knows your name" kind of place - they do their job and they have a smile on their face when they do it.

Looks can be deceiving. Nats is located in a little strip mall on the NW corner of 252 and 85th in Brooklyn Park. It looks so little from the outside, but when you walk in its a good sized diner. They have a variety of Eggs Benedict. My wife and I both ordered the standard ones. Eggs were nicely poached, a little on the runny side but I am picky. Tasty thick slice of ham. The hollandaise was ho hum. Tasted like packet hollandaise to me. The side of hash browns was tasty and perfectly cooked. My wife liked her American Fries. They were done as wedges of smaller potatoes. Service was quick and friendly. Atmosphere was bright and cheery as you would expect in a nice diner. I will be back to sample some of the chorizo based dishes.

Eggs Benedict were the bomb. Everything had a distinctly flavorful taste and fresh. The blueberry pancakes were very good. The chorizo sausage was very good. Pretty unique breakfast joint. Ambiance pretty basic but friendly service and great food made up for that.

Nothing like getting rolled out of a restaurant in the morning. This place was great. Perfect Diner atmosphere. Wonderful people watching, and delicious breakfast. I got the Rancheros Chorizo. I took a bite and did one of those long pauses. I could not tell if I was awake or dreaming, that is how good the first bite was. The meal took a SLIGHT turn when I put some of their homemade salsa on my food. It was kind of terrible, but after I learned from that mistake the rest of breakfast was delicious. The person I had breakfast with got the Biscuits and Gravy. Now, when I go out to eat with someone I usually play the game "Whose meal is better" and then resent the other person if I am not the winner. I am pleased to say that both meals were so good that it was a drawl. We also both got cheese on our hash browns, it was suggestion from the waitress. I am so glad we listened. Overall delicious experience. My one and only regret is that I did not get a pancake.

Stayed close by this place over the weekend and decided to give it a try after reading some of the favorable yelp reviews. What a nice little diner atmosphere in here. Nothing fancy at all, but that's ok. We were promptly seated and I was surprised as to how many people were here on Friday around 10am. I ordered Grandma's Omelette which had fresh broc, roasted turkey and ham from the bone, not that deli kind and topped with a hollandaise sauce. Real healthy!!! It was fantastic though. the American Fries were great as well. Others ordered French Toast, Pancakes, etc and everything was well prepared. Nothing ground breaking, but if you are in need of a large portioned, inexpensive meal, you really can't go wrong. I'd definitely recommend this place if you are around the area.

Its big portions for a decent cost of food. I'm not a fan of the way the menu is written out, its overwhelming to me to look at, but that's just probably me! Food is good!

(Review originally written in 2009, recently revisited in past month) It's been a while since I've gone out to try new food in Minnesota (last time was a Juicy Lucy at the 5-8) so I set my sights on breakfast around where I live. A quick google search lands me at Fat Nat's Eggs, less than 5 minutes from where I live. It was called by the Star Tribune the "Anti-Perkins" and one of their dishes was the "5th Best Dish" according to the Pioneer Press. So I just had to try it out! The original location is in New Hope/Brooklyn Center, but I had to try the one by my house. In a nondescript strip mall (next to Little Caesers), it shouts out Breakfast! Lunch! Indeed, they are only open from 5:30-1:30. Hmm, a specialized breakfast joint? Yum! Imagine my surprise when at 9 am the place was packed. Nothing reminds you're back in Minnesota than seeing Mauer jerseys around. There was also a group of 10-12 elderly women dressed in purple having a blast. I was seated at the counter by who else, the owner's wife! Plus Jeff Nat was hanging around joking with some customers. The service was quick, I ordered the famous Huevos Rancheroes with Carnitas ($8.25). In under five minutes, I receive my dish, and it was quite massive. The cheesy eggs were piled on top of pork and beans on top of two toasted tortillas. It also came with a side of salsa. I dig in. The eggs are flakey, done just right. As I pick up the eggs, the cheese (pepperjack?) strings along, melted perfectly. Then I reach the carnitas, and the pork just comes apart with my fork. Not too overly seasoned, but not too bland either. Good texture, not greasy. No complaints yet. I try a little of the salsa, I think it's fresh. At least it tastes fresh, has a good kick afterwards, and the onions give it a good crunch. Not a huge fan of onions, but it definitely gave the salsa texture. As I'm 1/3 through the dish, I'm starting to feel full. This is enough food for two, which makes it a fairly good deal at about $5 each. Not bad. While I eat, I wasn't disturbed by the service, which was nice that they were not overly attentive. They did keep an eye on my water level and whatnot. I watched the three cooks in the back, and they seemed somewhat happy, although they didn't talk to each other the entire time I was there. The atmosphere in the restaurant was casual, seems like it would be a fun hangout location. However, I did notice on the menu a message to be courteous, and give up your seat if you're done and people are waiting. So I guess they're not too keen on loitering? =) Anyway, the breakfast with tax and tip was a very reasonable $10. Seems next time I'll have to try out scrambled eggs (I'm eyeing Julie's which has choritzo and Italian sausage, and comes with toast and fries) or Eggs Benedict, or maybe grab a sandwich. So will I come back? Sure, and it's a solid early morning stop for me when I drive back to Toledo. Food 4.5/5, fresh, not too greasy Service 4/5, non-obtrusive Atmosphere 4/5, casual, lively Value 4/5, generous portions Overall 4.2/5, Recommended! I'm a fan =)

Yum, yum, yum! My husband and I had breakfast this morning at Fat Nat's in Brooklyn Park. We arrived at about 9:45, and the parking lot was almost full. It was going to be a long wait for a table, but we grabbed a seat at the bar almost right away. I always feel sorry for my husband when we go out for breakfast. With all the options out there, a plain pancake is just bread, but he always goes for pancakes or waffles, and God forbid they should have fruit in them. Fortunately, I have a somewhat broader palate, and I get to experience much more of what the breakfast world has to offer. This morning I had green chile huevos rancheros with carnitas. It was a great blend of flavors and textures, with the runny egg yolk and the chewy, porky carnitas served over crispy tortillas, all smothered in a slightly spicy green chile sauce. We will definitely be back often. I want to try everything on the menu, but I'm afraid the green chile huevos just won't let me; they were that good. Service was prompt and friendly, prices were reasonable, and my breakfast was delicious and memorable. Only four stars because my husband said the pancakes were nothing special.

Fat Nat's teaches me not to judge a restaurant from the outside. We always drove past this place because it's part of this strip-shopping-center-area-ma-jig with other small restaurants and shops, and truthfully it didn't appeal to us visually, BUT we found out that was our bad! We walked in one day for brunch trying to waste some time between Saturday events and were thoroughly impressed. Our food was great. You must get an omelette. They are huge and stuffed. Yeah, it took a little while to get our food, but I understand that it was quite busy with a lot of people too. I've only been there once, but I would definitely go again!

Who would believe that one would have such an amazing culinary experience at a little strip mall in the burbs. Not much to look at but what a breakfast. I told the server "bring me the most popular thing on the menu." I had the Eggs Bacon Avocado Benedict and it was the best breakfast food I had ever eaten! You don't come to a place like this for pancakes and coffee, although I am sure they are good. KUDOS!

  • Jeff M.

Good food and friendly service. It's surprising how big and nice the restaurant is because it looks like nothing special from the outside of the strip mall. The hollandaise sauce on my Nat's Benedict could use a little kick of flavor and so could the pancakes, but the chorizo was perfect!

Fat Nats is awesome! Yes, I admit I was drawn to this place by word of mouth and the hype that came with it. Expectations were high and Fat Nats passed. I had the eggs benedict while my friend had the huevos carnitas and both were delicious! Great flavor and seasoned very well. They also give you quite a generous portion. If your ever around the area either this would be a good place to scope out.

Fat Nat's is as good as it gets for breakfast. On the weekend, the Fiancee and I or The Sister and I (if she is in town) will go here for breakfast or brunch...sometime twice in the same weekend! The fiancee is CRAZY about the Jacob's Omelet (and lets the Staff know every time!) whereas I am a fan of the pancakes. Granted I would never order pancakes as they are totally hit or miss, after trying my sister's one time, they are a must order!!! I think there must be some kind of secret ingredient in the pancakes as they are AMAZING and if I have to spend the rest of my life eating the pancakes to try and figure it out, I would be one happy girl! The Sister also loves the pancakes, but is a sucker for Hollandaise so she goes for the the Benedict or the Mike's Omelet (potatoes, ham and cheese covered in Hollandaise). We usually end up sharing one of these and the pancakes and leave happy and full for the rest of the day. This place is a gem and I hope it stays busy for years to come!

Fat Nat's was OK, but not as good as I was expecting. I ordered the "Elmer's" (two eggs, toast, American Fries, bacon, and two blueberry pancakes). The bacon was good, toast unusually light and crispy, eggs poached perfectly, and the American Fries were ok. The two pancakes were ridiculously large...too large. The few blueberries that were in them were not evenly distributed and the batter seemed a little gritty. My wife ordered the Eggs Benedict. The sign on the wall says the yolks will be runny, but hers were not. She expected Canadian Bacon but got ham. Her hash browns looked perfectly browned (ordered "crispy"). I was not impressed with the owner's son doing the silverware roll-ups at the counter and handling EACH utensil by its eating surface. This after he bussed tables and cooked food. I suggest the silverware be laid out on a clean towel and handled by the handles. I also found the radio music blaring from the kitchen to be annoying. The clientele seemed mostly older and having the music blaring seemed to be an unnecessary distraction for the guests and a way of life for the young cooks. One minor improvement would be to offer flavored creamers for the coffee. I also prefer my American Fries be cut as circles or discs, not chunks. Fat Nat's is pretty much like Hudy's in Champlin, but "one star" better. Lastly, I think a smaller pancake and smaller price for it would be a good idea.

Not a big breakfast person, but when I do go out for breakfast, this is where I go. I have only been to the Brooklyn Park location. Have been there with colleagues before work, and been there with my kids. All have loved it here. Staff is friendly, prices are great, alot of choices on menu, service is fast, courteous, and thorough. I have loved everything Ive tried, except the hashbrowns...too over done, but I still love Fat Nats.

My favorite place for breakfast, and so far one of the few great places I've found to eat at near home. The service is friendly and efficient. Eggs are always cooked properly. Many original and tasty specials, and a lot of them have a south-of-the-border theme. If you like spicy you mus try the Salsa Verde sauce, it packs some heat. The only thing I've ever had that wasn't great was the Biscuits and Gravy. I personally prefer a peppery gravy and this dish had more of a sweetness to it. I've also been to the New Hope location but I like this one better. The service at the New Hope one was not near as competent (but everyone has a bad day now and then) and I didn't like the Salsa Verde sauce as much either.

I am a huge fan of diners in general, and Fat Nat's will not disappoint. Huevos Rancheros with carnitas are amazing, very filling, and always with the right amount of HOT. The staff there has always been stellar, regardless of who we have. Prices are good, coffee is always flowing. Would HIGHLY recommend.

"fresh ingredients, cut and prepared daily" is stated on their coffee mugs but their food is far from fresh and it's best just to go to a denny's instead. any restaurants that's known for their eggs benedict should not be serving store bought hollandaise sauce. it was bland and def one of the worst benedicts. maybe they forgot to shake up the box? the sausage biscuits gravy was frightening. scrambled eggs looked like it was nuked. the only plus side was that our waitress was nice, oh and the store-bought hash browns.

I just moved to the area, and went to Fat Nats for the first time. It ws very good. I will definitely go back... I had the grandma's omlette, it was very large and very delicious. Ham, Turkey (both real deal, off the bone not processed), broccoli, and chesse, with hollandaise on top. I am not a huge omlette fan, but it was really good, I wil definitely go back and sample some of the other fare. Service was good, not much ambience, but very good!

Hands down, the best breakfast place in the Twin Cities. Before Fat Nat's Eggs - I loved Papa's. But after one trip to Fat Nat's, I changed allegiances. My fiance and I go almost every Sunday. Even when the place is packed, seating is fast, service is quick and really friendly, and the food is great. Everything we've tried has been awesome. Eggs are cooked perfectly, ingredients are fresh, HUGE chunks of vegetables, meat, cheese, and your coffee cup is never empty. The salsa verde is amazing - the amount of heat is just right. I like ordering a side of it with my Norm's omelette. BE ADVISED - the location in New Hope isn't nearly as good, in my opinion. We live a couple of miles from the Brooklyn Park location so that's the one we go to. Once we tried the other location in New Hope and, while the food was still decent, there was a notable difference. The salsa verde at the New Hope location isn't the same at all. The service also wasn't as good at the New Hope location (our waitress took our order, then lost our order, then 20 minutes later remembered she lost our order, took our order again, and then another 25 minutes later we got our food). The Brooklyn Park location is also really family friendly. Great place, great food, great service. You can't go wrong. It's definitely worth the trip.

It was a stormy morning, and we didn't have a lot of time for breakfast, but Fat Nat's gave us the ray of sunshine that was missing in the sky. The Eggs Nat's Benedict were perfectly poached, with creamy and flavorful hollandaise, and a generous portion of American fries, seasoned just enough, and cut into tight wedges that were perfectly shaped for shoveling up the yolk-holllandaise residue. The menu made me want to come back. The several varieties of omelettes looked intriguing; the huevos rancheros were tempting; and the 7 or 8 Benedict options revealed Fat Nat's confidence -- entirely justified -- in its hollandaise recipe. The service was friendly and fast. We were in a hurry, and they got us our order in under 10 minutes. The sweet options were not as strong or original as the savory -- but plenty good enough to make for satisfying side-dish portions. Exterior of the joint is a strip mall; interior ambiance also leaves something to be desired. All in all, strong recommendaion.
